Superman – Man of Steel, a super blockbuster at the box office, was filmed in our backyard, almost.
Plano, IL was the main location for filming but for some of the crew, Naperville — with its breathtaking Riverwalk, Historic District, ice cream parlors and restaurants– was the place for the cast and crew to relax, get in shape and take a break.
We’re proud to see our city aspire to greatness, and extend its reputation as an amazing modern city with that ‘old town’ feel – an appeal that does indeed make it one of the top places to live, and with the most ice-cream stores per square inch, it helps make that an easy decision!
If Naperville were a person, perhaps I’d be accurate in seeing it (her) in this manner:
Jor-El (Russell Crowe): What if a child dreamed of becoming something other than what society had intended? What if a child aspired to something greater?
Superman: I can do things that other people can’t.
Russell Crowe said it himself on WGN News, “I was getting into Jor-El shape in Naperville and I enjoyed that quite a bit.”
The new Superman, lead actor Henry Cavill, was also seen enjoying Naperville.
As a Naperville resident and Realtor®, I now have bragging rights. One of the main features close to many a Naperville resident’s heart is our historic district because it stands as a testament to a rich cultural and historical heritage.
The Naperville Historic Preservation Ordinance requires that properties in the Historic District be rehabilitated, renovated, where repairs and improvements remain consistent with “the historic, architectural and aesthetic character of the neighborhood.” — Naperville Historic Preservation Ordinance (Section 6-11 of the Municipal Code).
As a Realtor and a Naperville resident, I’m familiar with the ordinances and can help make renovating, selling or buying a home in this area a great experience. Specialized period renovations and/or preservation require experts using materials that require specialized installation. My preferred vendors are experts, and provide the high level of quality I expect.
“[Naperville] is a beautiful little town, it’s a friendly place and it’s really well organized…” Thank you Jor-El, we aim to stay that way! I love that Crowe mentioned the many ice-cream stores we enjoy, they’re a staple in the summer months.
A new movie, “Precious Mettle”, starring Paul Sorvino of “Goodfellas” fame was filmed in Naperville and Aurora in June 2013. Looks like we’re on Hollywood’s map!
